Entry #9. Topics in Food Quest

Once I saw what the weeks entry would be about, I wanted to find an image about the impact that fast food has on the health of our nation.  The U.S. suffers from obesity across all ages, more than any other nation in the world.

I love the irony in this ad because on one side, we see the rates of heart disease, and on the other we see something that completely ignores the statistic.  Cheap fast food is hurting our country at an alarming rate and the impacts are effecting all generations.

As a society, one of those two in the ad above do you think people will end up acting upon more?  I honestly think a good 80-90% of people that see the heart disease ad will not even think about it another time in their day.  But most people that see the Burger King ad will probably find themselves at a Burger King the next morning.

Cheap convenient options are usually never better than a home cooked meal.  Fast food is soaked in grease and stripped of all nutritious contents.  Unhealthy eating habits lead to the demise of many.  This short-term thinking that has plagued our country will lead to a much bigger issue in the years to come.  Consistently, the U.S. leads in obesity rates and heart disease rates, and these cheap convenient options are the source of the issue.

As consumers, we need to take a step back and look at the long-term.  These options may look good in the moment, but in the long-run they are nothing but negative.  We must stray away from this short-term mindset and look towards the future.  Starting with our health.

  1. It's crazy to me how complacent we've become as a society. It's sad that many of us have to resort to fast food for convenience and for cost efficiency. I agree with you that these cheap fast food options are never as good as a home cooked meal.

  2. I totally agree with this post. America has a real problem with fast food and more actions needs to be taken to fix it. I actually visited Europe this past summer and I hardly ever ran into an obese person and I also noticed that most of them were always cooking meals at home for their families. They were overall healthier and also in a better mood because of it. It is especially hard to combat this problem when fast food companies offer so many "deals" and "promos" that attract Americans into their fast food restaurant.
