Entry #5. Accidents Happen

For my ad, I chose the Large Espresso commercial.  I feel with this ad the author wants the audience to see that accidents can happen even though they are not your fault whatsoever, but just because it happens, it will be.

The lifestyle the ad is supporting is to just be better safe than sorry.  If you get into an accident, you need to have insurance to help cover the costs.  Especially in the scenario of the commercial where the other person is rich and has an expensive car.

The ad is geared towards any audience because accidents can happen anyone, but it also is pushed towards lower income classes.  The way he states he is a rich person and has an expensive car, it shows that he is sort of talking down on the driver who hit him, who he assumes is a lower class.  This ad can upset people of the lower class to make them want to buy the insurance because it does upset them and they don't want it to happen to them.

At the same time the ads are comedic and shouldn't be taken too deeply because that is not the point.  In the end it is just about staying insured and being safe.  The lighting of the ad and the tone of the actors voice makes the "rich driver" sound almost evil.  Sparking emotion in the viewer because 9 times out of 10 they are going to be the other driver.  Even though we see everything is entirely the rich persons fault,  he still always comes out on top if you aren't prepared. Hence, the reason the insurance is advertised.

  1. This was a good ad. Not my favorite but still had a great point to it. You have to be prepared for anything. You never know what is around the corner.

  2. Push yourself to pull out specific evidence from the ad to analyze: quotes, the setting, the larger context of the issue at hand (texting and driving), and really dig deep into your analysis. You have a good start here but could go further.
